Kitty and Emma would become enduring parts of the X-Men cast, while the White Queen and Shaw are closely associated with the Hellfire Club.

The issue sits at the beginning of the Dark Phoenix Saga, bringing new characters into the Claremont and Byrne run as the Hellfire Club conflict develops.
