Why It Matters
The standout feature is Everett's disturbing cover: a terrified man in bed, hands at his throat, beside a looming sinister face. Published in 1953, this is an original example of Atlas horror from before the Comics Code era.
Cover-featured stories include Sleep My Love!, Terror in Time!, When the Martians Strike! and The City!. The photographed opening of When the Martians Strike! shows a Martian fleet setting out to attack Earth, adding period science-fiction appeal to the horror anthology.
Creators
- star Interior art: Catalogued contributors include Al Eadeh, Tony DiPreta, Dick Ayers, Jim Mooney and Gil Evans. Individual unsigned story credits should be treated as attributions.
- star Writers: Individual script credits have not been reliably established; Stan Lee's editorial credit does not establish authorship of every story.
Collector Notes
Raw / ungraded. The supplied grade of 1.8 GD- is a visual estimate. Grading is subjective; no CGC or other professional grade is guaranteed.
This is a heavily worn copy. The photographs show substantial spine wear and paper loss, visible thread/stitching along the spine, tears and chips at the edges, creasing, surface rubbing, a missing piece at the lower front-cover edge and handwriting in the title area. These defects should be considered alongside the grade. The photographs of the actual copy form part of the description; please inspect the cover, back cover and interior views carefully.
Issue and publication details were checked against the photographed cover and indicia; cover, editor and interior artist listings were cross-checked against GoCollect's issue record.
