Why It Matters

This opening chapter features Thanos using the Infinity Gauntlet to erase half of all life in the universe—the defining act that sets the event in motion. Starlin’s cosmic saga later supplied important story elements for Marvel’s screen adaptations. Pérez’s cover places the jewelled gauntlet at the centre of a large cast of Marvel characters, making it a distinctive display piece as well as the start of the original limited series.
