Why It Matters
A closing chapter in Harvey's pre-Code horror run: the numbering continued as Chamber of Clues #27. The Al Avison sea-monster cover is the main visual draw, alongside the final-issue significance.
The contents page lists The Ice Horror, Demons of the Night, The Eight Hands of Ranu and The Captain's Return. The stories range from a frozen prehistoric discovery to supernatural revenge and murderous nursery-rhyme figures. Earlier material is reused: The Eight Hands of Ranu appeared in #9 in 1952. The indicia's 1952 copyright line should not be mistaken for this issue's December 1954 publication date.
Creators
- star Interior credits: Catalogued contributors include Al Avison, Tom Hickey, Manny Stallman, John Giunta and Vic Donahue. Unsigned story-level credits should be treated as attributions. Heritage separately attributes the original Eight Hands of Ranu artwork to Mo Marcus; that attribution is not certain.
Collector Notes
Raw / ungraded. The supplied 3.0 GD/VG grade is a visual estimate. Grading is subjective and no CGC or other third-party grade is guaranteed. Visible wear includes spine and edge wear, creasing, surface rubbing and an ink marking over the “C” in “CHILLS”. Please inspect all five photographs of the actual copy, including the back cover, indicia and interior views; they form part of the description.
Issue identification and credits were checked against the photographed indicia, MyComicShop's issue record, GoCollect and Heritage's original-art record.
