Why It Matters

The cover depicts witches tormenting captives, including a man in stocks and a chained woman—a notable example of Harvey’s pre-Code horror imagery. Inside, “The Spell of the Black Gloves” explores inherited witchcraft, “The Clinging Phantom” combines photography and black magic, and “Curse of the Caterpillar” brings monstrous creatures to a remote inn. “Share My Coffin” completes the four main comic stories.
