Why It Matters
This is an original pre-Code Harvey issue, published before the Comics Code era, rather than a later I.W./Super Comics reprint. Its monster-filled cover and four horror stories make it an appealing example of Harvey's early-1950s supernatural comics.
The photographed contents page identifies Invitation to Doom!, Screaming City, Curse of the Statue and League of the Damned. The supplied interior photographs also show Strange Superstitions and the text features Six Chances to Live!, The Blood Plant! and Ghost Doctor!
Creators
The cover has been attributed to Al Avison, but this attribution is not conclusively verified and is not presented as a definitive credit. Indexed artistic contributors include Bob Powell, John Giunta, Vic Donahue, Rudy Palais, Howard Nostrand and Manny Stallman; Leon Harvey is listed as editor. Individual script credits have not been reliably established.
Collector Notes
The photographed indicia identifies Witches Tales, January 1952, Vol. 1, No. 7, published by Witches Tales, Inc. The 1951 copyright line does not change the January 1952 issue date.
This is a raw, ungraded comic. The supplied 2.5 GD+ (Good Plus) grade is a visual estimate only. Grading is subjective; no professional or future CGC grade is guaranteed. Visible wear includes cover rubbing, creasing and edge wear, with a small tear at the lower edge of the back cover. Please inspect all five photographs: they show the actual copy being sold and form part of the description.
